SmartStop Self Storage - Corinth - FM 2181

If I could I would give no stars. I went to dumb stop and rented a unit. There was a lock on the unit I rented. I talked to Layla and Carson and they said I had to use a cylinder/disc lock. After talking to corporate office, this is not true. It is recommended- not policy. I am storing donations temporarily for Christmas. I had my own lock. In looking at the other units at least 12 had a regular locks. Carson said it was under new management- there was no sign showing this. The other units were grandfathered in and did not have to have disc locks. The customer service is terrible and there are hidden fees. There are other places in the area- dumb stop is not a worth your time or money.

They rented me this unit but never took the yellow lock off… They refuse to remove it while other people have the locks that arent discs All because they want to sell a $20 lock Dont waste your time with this place

Be careful with this location. I have had nothing but issues on funds and deception with them. 1. Filled out a reservation online and was asked for a move in date. I was called daily while still 6 days out from the move in date. So I took a call. They went ahead and got me set up by taking my payment information. Well they charged me then and started my lease date after that call. 2. When they took the funds, they took a full month amount of $120, plus $30 for activation of the account then another $20 for insurance from them for $171 total. There was a first months free promotion when signing up. Went into the office and the gentleman ended up fixing things and rolled over the excess charges to a credit for the account and gave me the next month free. 3. Then at the point of talking with the gentlemen in the office and getting things worked out, I was set up for auto draft. This was not set up and on one of my visits I was locked out and asked to visit the office. Went to the office and autodraft was not set up. So I was charged a activation fee to get me back in the gate. 4. Then after 4 months I was charge $230 out of the clear blue. Went into the office to talk with them and was told I was mailed a letter for the rate changes. Nothing I could dispute according to the office manager. Things to note about this company before choosing: - They do not Email or SMS message you anything. They only rely on Snail Mail. Out of date with times. - You can not set up auto draft online so you will have to rely on them to do this. - If you move addresses, make sure they know at all times where you are if you want any communication - They recently put make up on a pig and repainted the place. - They will call you like crazy to get you in the door, just to take your money as they please to rack up more charges. -Hands down worst experience I have ever had with a storage unit rental. ****If it were for that the place is clean I would have gave 1 star

This is by the far the worst place to store your stuff. I just lost everything I have worked my butt off for. Stored my stuff after leaving an abusive relationship and ended up having a baby in NICU, went to pay my bill and they upped my rate by $100 without notice to me. I called and explained my situation that I had been in and out of the NICU seeing my daughter and giving birth and asked the GM to please take some late charges off as I was out of work clearly having a baby. They refused. I had no calls, no mail, no nothing. Then I log in when I have saved some money up to pay the balance or what I thought the balance was and again it’s gone up again with more and more fees. To the point of being over $1300. There isn’t $1300 worth of stuff even in there. Then they put my unit up on auction and somehow my unit was the only one that was in a bidding war and went for over $500 again I don’t have the money of course. My dead grandfathers clothes, my dead dogs stuff, my school photos and memories all of it gone. Because of greed. I could care less about any furniture which isn’t much or clothes that are in there. I just want my sentimental things that legit have no value to anyone and are going to end up in the trash anyways. Basically everything from before I became a mother is gone. My life prior stolen, over greed. I will never recommend this place and will do my best to tell people to stay away from this company.
